Wikipedia:Meetup/Sydney/October 2012

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jean-Philippe Rameau's Traité de l’harmonie (Treatise on Harmony, 1722).

Australian Wikipedians are holding an edit-a-thon about French classical music to coincide with the Classic 100 Music of France (ABC), which will be broadcast by ABC Classic FM 8–14 October 2012. The physical meetup in Sydney will be on the penultimate broadcasting day (that is, Saturday, 13 October). Physical and online participation is welcome!

When
1–5 pm Saturday 13 October
Where
Mitchell Meeting Room 2, Mitchell Wing, State Library of New South Wales, Macquarie Street, Sydney.
See the State Library's website "getting here" page.

Venue

[edit]

The venue for the physical meeting is on the first floor of the Mitchell Wing. Enter through the main doors of the Library, go up the marble staircase, turn left at the top, along the corridor, second room on the left. There is also a lift.
The Library has its own café on site, which is open on the day.

Resources

[edit]

Since the venue is a great public library, there are a great many resources available if we want to order them up from the stack. They have to be referred to in the reading room but it is just down the stairs, near the edit-a-thon. Some rare resources are held offsite, but they can be ordered online in advance to be available on the day. Use the SLNSW Catalogue

Participants

[edit]

Online participation

[edit]

We will use online collaboration tools like Internet Relay Chat and Google Hangout to track the countdown. (Include your preference when you add your name.)

To do

[edit]

Note that the voting possibilities in the Timeline section of the ABC website link directly to WP articles. For example, in the Romantic period the list reveals which items have an article and which do not. Look at the voting possibilities or scroll down on this ABC page

Some composers such as Fauré are already Featured Articles but many composition articles are non-existent. These include both compositions by French composers and compositions in the French style. There are also Australian connections – for example, Pinchgut Opera recently performed in connection with this Countdown and its Director, Erin Helyard, does not have an article.

These lists of works have been copied to /The List, which in combination with the voters' choices are developed into the workplan table below.

The key guiding article – Classic 100 Music of France (ABC) – is being diligently updated by User:GFHandel.
